Augustine Udefa Speaking Scholarship
The Augustine Udefa Speaking Scholarship is awarded to students in African educational institutions, who can demonstrate good public speaking skills and critical thinking ability. The scholarship is awarded to students in any discipline, and winning it is contingent on the student being of good moral conduct and winning a series of speaking competitions. The scholarship provides full school fees support for the duration of your studies and a one-time cash payment.
Eligibility
- You must be a student in an African public university, polytechnic, monotechnic, or college of education in your first or second year. However, you may be considered if you're in your third or fourth year and you can demonstrate that you are passing through financial hardship.
- You must be of good moral conduct.
- You must submit all required application documents via the application portal. Documents required include curriculum vitae, admission letter, and an attestation letter from your Head of Department (HOD) on their letterhead, attesting to your good moral conduct.
Scholarship Value
- Winner: Full school fee support for the period of your program. Cash prize of ₦100,000.
- 2nd Position: Full school fee support for one academic session. Cash prize of ₦50,000.
- 3rd Position: Full school fee support for one academic session.
Renewal & Termination

RENEWAL OF THE SCHOLARSHIP
The winner of the Augustine Udefa Speaking Scholarship competition is eligible for the scholarship renewal every academic session. Renewal of the scholarship is contingent on you fulfilling the following conditions: 1. Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.5 on a 5.0 scale or 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. 2. Submit a letter from your HOD, confirming your CGPA and ability to complete your studies in due time. 3. Submit two attestation letters from two academic referees, attesting to your good moral conduct.
TERMINATION OF SCHOLARSHIP.
Recipients of the Augustine Udefa Speaking Scholarship are expected to be good ambassadors of their institutions and be people of good moral values. Your scholarship will be terminated if: 1. You do not meet the minimum CPGA requirement for renewal. 2. You are rusticated from your institution because of misconduct of any form. 2. You are seen making or sharing posts on social media that promote nudity and sexual immorality.
How to Apply

Speaking Competition
The speaking competition will commence in January 2026. Shortlisted applicants will be selected to participate in the speaking competition. The applicants will be divided into groups with a specific number of speakers in each group. They will be assigned topics to speak on, and a winner will be selected by majority vote from the public and scores from a panel of independent judges. The speaking competition will take place on our social media channels dedicated specifically for this purpose:

Each speaker will make a video presentation of their points and forward the video to the Foundation via a dedicated email address which will be sent to the speakers. The video should be clear and audible and not be more than 3 min.
Stages
- Stage 1: Each member in each group will compete with the other members in the same group individually. For each win, the winner will be assigned three points. At the end of this stage, the speaker with the highest point in each group will proceed to stage 2. This means that stage 2 will consist of winners from the various groups in stage 1 (one winner from each group).
- Stage 2: The speakers who will make it to stage 2 will compete among themselves as done in stage 1. After the competition, two speakers with the highest points will make it to the third and final stage. The speaker with the third highest point will take the third position.
- Stage 3 (Final stage): The two speakers who will make it to the final stage will compete to win the Augustine Udefa Speaking Scholarship. The winner will be awarded the scholarship to cover his or her school fee for the duration of his or her program. In addition, the winner will receive a cash prize of one hundred thousand naira. The second person will be awarded the scholarship for one academic session and will also receive a cash prize of fifty thousand naira only. The person who takes third position will also be awarded the scholarship for one academic session.
Voting and Scoring
A panel of independent judges will listen to the content of your presentation and score you out of 70% according to a set of scoring criteria. Votes from the public will constitute 30% of your total score.
